Privacy Policy

How Bolo India collects, uses and protects your personal data, and your rights under the DPDP Act, 2023.

Last updated: 3 November 2026

Who we are

Bolo India (boloindia.in, including the Bolo India app and corporate.boloindia.in) is a public-opinion platform where members answer short questions and earn points. For the personal data described here, Bolo India is the "Data Fiduciary" under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) and the DPDP Rules, 2025. This policy explains, in simple words, what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and the rights you have.

Personal data we collect

• Account: name, mobile number, email address, password (stored only in encrypted, hashed form), gender, age group, occupation, state, district, city, pincode, and a profile photo if you add one.
• Your answers: answers to the daily questions and trending questions, feedback and messages you send us.
• Points and rewards: points history, referrals, certificates, and the details you give when you redeem a reward (name, mobile, email, state, district, city, pincode) so that we can deliver it.
• Your choices: whether you agreed to WhatsApp promotional messages, notification and language settings.
• Technical data: IP address, approximate location worked out from the IP address (country, state, city), device and browser type, pages visited and login times.
• Without an account: if you answer a trending question without logging in, your answer is linked only to a random ID stored in your browser, not to your name.

Why we use it

• To create and run your account and keep login secure (including OTP checks).
• To show you questions, record your answers and show results.
• To give points, run referrals and deliver rewards and certificates.
• To send you service messages, such as question reminders, results and account emails. Push notifications are sent only if you allow them in your browser. WhatsApp promotional messages are sent only if you gave that separate consent.
• To prepare aggregate reports, for example "62% said Yes", or results by state, district, age group or occupation. Your individual answers are never published with your name. Brands, media and other partners receive only aggregate, anonymous results, never your personal data.
• To prevent fraud and duplicate accounts and to keep the platform secure.
• To meet legal obligations.

Consent and how to withdraw it

We process your personal data on the basis of the consent you give when you register (by agreeing to the Terms and this Privacy Policy), or for uses that the DPDP Act allows without consent, such as complying with law. Consent for WhatsApp promotional messages is separate and optional; not giving it does not stop you from using Bolo India.
You can withdraw consent at any time, as easily as you gave it:
• WhatsApp promotions: reply STOP, or email us.
• Push notifications: turn them off in your browser or phone settings.
• Your account and data: email us to delete your account (see "Your rights").
Withdrawal does not affect processing already done before it. Some features, such as points or rewards, may stop working without the related data.

Who we share it with

We do not sell or rent your personal data. We share it only:
• With service providers who work for us under our instructions (Data Processors): our server hosting provider, email and notification services, and Google Analytics for website usage statistics.
• When the law, a court or a government authority requires it, or to prevent fraud or protect users' safety.
Partners and clients of Bolo India receive only aggregate, anonymous results. We use an AI service to draft trending questions from public news headlines; it receives only those public headlines, never your personal data.

How long we keep it

• While your account is active, we keep your account data and answers.
• If you ask us to delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except records the law requires us to keep, such as points and reward transaction records and security logs, which are kept at least one year.
• If an account is not used for 3 years, we may delete it after giving you at least 48 hours' notice by email.
• Aggregate results that do not identify anyone may be kept.
• The random browser ID used for answers without an account expires after one year.

Your rights

Under the DPDP Act you have the right to:
• Get a summary of the personal data we hold about you, how we use it, and who we have shared it with.
• Correct, complete or update your data. You can edit most of it yourself on your Profile page.
• Have your personal data erased.
• Withdraw consent at any time.
• Have your grievances addressed.
• Nominate a person to exercise these rights on your behalf in case of death or incapacity.
To use any of these rights, email supports@boloindia.in from your registered email address (or mention your registered mobile number) with the subject "Privacy request". We may verify your identity before acting. We acknowledge requests within 7 days and resolve them within 30 days, and in any case within the 90 days allowed by law.

Security and data breaches

We use reasonable security safeguards: encrypted (HTTPS) connections, passwords stored only as hashes, admin access limited to authorised people with one-time-password login, and access logs. No online system is completely secure. If a personal data breach affects you, we will inform you and the Data Protection Board of India as required by law, explaining what happened, the likely impact and the steps we are taking.

Children

Bolo India is meant only for people aged 18 years or older. We do not knowingly collect personal data of anyone under 18. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we will delete it. Parents or guardians can write to us at supports@boloindia.in.

Cookies

We use cookies and browser storage to keep you logged in, remember your language, credit referrals, remember your answers to trending questions, and measure website use with Google Analytics. Details are in our Cookie Policy.

Sunish K Thakur, Grievance Officer, Bolo India
